Abora Peak

Abora Peak rises above cedar taiga on the range's north slope. Non-technical by mountaineering standards but long, trail-less, with altitude gain over rocky slopes and scrub. Summit views over rolling ridges and river valleys; Kolyma basin sections in clear weather. Fog and cloud can erase the panorama within an hour — allow a spare day. Needs navigation, water and readiness for sharp ridge wind. Storm shell and gloves even in summer — ridge temperature is lower than the valley. Best with an organised group and local guide who knows safe approaches and bear behaviour in this sector. Do not solo without northern mountaineering experience. Descend the same slopes — watch time: daylight is short even in summer at Kolyma latitudes. Satellite beacon or comms are mandatory in the pack.
