Akkem Lake
Akkem lies in a high valley below twin-peaked Belukha. Water is milky turquoise from silt; shores are rocky — cedar taiga, moraines, and glaciers descend from the summits. Trails lead from Tyungur village up the Akkem valley; part of the route crosses Altai Reserve with mandatory permits. No resort buildings — camps, cabins, and tent fields only. Akkem is not only a mountain view — a base for multi-day links to passes, glaciers, and rock areas. Weather is unstable; nights are cool even in summer. Hiking groups and climbers preparing ascents or circuits visit often. No coach tours — trek format only. Respect reserve rules: fires only in designated spots, pack out litter, and leaving trails without preparation is risky due to fords and rockfall.
How to get there
To Tyungur on the Chuysky tract, then on foot up the Akkem valley; reserve permits required.

July–August for camping at the lake; June when passes are snow-free
