A forest lake in central Altai — a quiet fishing and day-trip spot.

Region: Altai RepublicCoordinates: 51°5′N 85°59′E

Altaiskoye Lake

Altaiskoye Lake sits in rolling taiga away from main tract tourist flows. Mixed shores — grass, rock, sparse brush; no resort buildings at the water. Locals and anglers know it as a calm spot for hours or a day in nature. Access is partly dirt; ruts block cars after rain. Water is usually calm; swimming is possible in warm weather but bottom can be silty. Camping in tents or agreed sites. Not a mandatory Altai route sight — for travellers wanting quiet without coach tours. Keep shores clean and follow fishing rules — checks increase in season.

How to get there

On local roads from nearby central-district villages; check passability after rain.

Best season

June–September for access and fishing
