Large lake west of Chita — recreation bases, fishing and short city escapes.
Arakhley Lake
Arakhley is one of Chita's nearest water recreation spots. Shores are partly lined with holiday bases and private homes; open stretches draw anglers and families. Summer brings swimming, fishing and boating; winter ice fishing and walks when ice is safe. Water warms slowly but beaches fill on hot days. Steppe hills and open sky; afternoon lake wind picks up, evenings cool. Not wilderness — a familiar short-break shore for locals. A day trip from Chita or Khilok, not a multi-day trek. Services depend on the base you choose — power, showers and boat hire where operators work. Respect private shore plots and fishing rules. Pack out trash — the lake is the region's main inland summer escape.
How to get there
~50 km west of Chita on paved road; shorter from Khilok on regional highway.
Best season
June–August for lakeside recreation
