Baraban Cliff

Baraban Cliff is a striking limestone mass about two kilometres upstream from Ilyich hamlet on the Urup (Otradnensky District). The faces rise about a hundred metres, with tiered grottoes at the base. Local route notes list it among the main natural landmarks of the Ilyich cluster beside the mushroom rocks and Trubny Canyon. Hollows on the summit are sometimes cautiously linked to possible ritual traces; a large medieval settlement (Ilyichevskoye) lay nearby. For most visitors the silhouette, Urup gorge views and a safe look from below or along a marked path matter more than any improvised summit scramble. The stop suits travellers seeking mountain Krasnodar Krai far from Krasnaya Polyana and beach resorts: little commerce, real foothill terrain, and archaeology of the Silk Road’s northern branches close at hand.
