Bezhanitsy Hills

Bezhanitsy Hills are glacial relief in Bezhanitsy and neighbouring districts. Bezhanitsy village — former uyezd centre with wooden and brick houses, church and square. Low but clear hills above the plain; lakes, bogs and mixed forest between. Local roads, often unpaved; few signs to «sights». Drive between villages, stop at rural churches and viewpoints. Typical Valdai-type country, less known to tourists. Several nature monuments and old estates in the district; minimal infrastructure. Bezhanitsy is quiet country for driving and short walks, not a resort. Best in summer and golden autumn when forest colour peaks. Spring and after rain soften dirt roads — passable car or patience needed. Fit between Novgorod, Pskov and Velikiye Luki — the oblast's geographic centre, not a fringe point.
