Railway town in the steppe south — hub toward Mogoytuy and the China border.

Borzya

Borzya grew on the Trans-Siberian Railway serving eastbound passenger and freight. For travellers it is the last urban resupply before Mogoytuy Volcano and sparse steppe near the Amur Oblast border. Compact city — station, housing blocks, park. Typical steppe Trans-Baikal architecture — no tourist gloss but reliable transit services. Gateway to Mogoituysky Volcano and southern and eastern steppe routes. Hot summers; severe frost and wind in winter — a short volcano season, but easier to arrange transport and lodging here. Overnight and resupply before remote dirt roads is the main tourist function. Book train tickets ahead in season. Not a sight in itself but essential logistics for eastern Trans-Baikal — fuel, shops and connectivity beat Mogoytuy village.

How to get there

Trans-Siberian train or ~350 km by road southeast from Chita.

Best season

May–September for transit and volcano access
