Lagoon-side castle ruins in Ushakovo — with a museum and events.
Brandenburg Castle
In Ushakovo, on the shore of the Kaliningrad Lagoon, stand the ruins of Brandenburg Castle — one of the oblast's recognisable historic sites. This is not the Curonian Spit: the fort lies on the mainland lagoon coast, in a different route cluster, and is often confused with better-known coastal itineraries. A museum and events operate on the ruins — the site feels more alive than many abandoned castles in Kaliningrad Oblast. Walls and towers read clearly from the shore; lagoon views add context: the castle was part of a coastal defence line. About an hour by car from Kaliningrad. Pairs well with Balga in Veseloye — both on the southwest lagoon line, a short drive apart on local roads. Check museum opening hours and event schedules before visiting — hours may change by season.
How to get there
