Bryansk Partisan Museum Park

Partizan Square is a main Bryansk square at Lenin Avenue and Krasnoarmeyskaya St. in Sovetsky District. The name was fixed in the 1950s post-war master plan in memory of partisan activity in Bryansk Oblast. Since 1966 a monument to soldiers and partisans — liberators of Bryansk — stands at the centre; it became an unofficial city symbol. An eternal flame burns at the base; ceremonies on 9 May and 17 September. In 1985 the Bryansk Regional Museum building opened on the square — the oblast's largest museum. Exhibits cover nature, history and culture, including the Great Patriotic War and partisan movement. In 2000 a twelve-storey clock tower with four faces became a local landmark evoking Spasskaya chimes. The square is framed by 1960s housing. Partizan Square is an urban point, not a forest memorial: combine with the centre and a trip to Partizanskaya Polyana 12 km away for the full picture.
