Busse Lagoon
Busse Lagoon is separated from the Sea of Okhotsk by a sand spit; it connects to Aniva Bay via Suslov Pass. Area ~39 km², max depth 4.5 m. Named for Nikolai Busse, participant in Nevelsky's expedition and first head of the island. Rivers including Sheshkevicha and Arakul channel flow in. Angelica seaweed for agar is harvested here; mussels, sea cucumbers, salmon and more. Shore villages Beregovoye and Muravyovo; coastal route, not a city museum tour. Combine with Tunaycha, Cape Velikan or Mordvinov Bay — a lagoon coast itinerary.
How to get there
By car from Korsakov or Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Beregovoye or Muravyovo on the lagoon's north shore.
