Chekhov Peak
Chekhov Peak lies in Korsakovsky urban district ~7 km east of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk — a top Susunai Range summit, formerly called Sudzuya dake. Named for Anton Chekhov, who visited the island in the late 19th century. 1045 m; taiga, stone pine krummholz and alpine meadows near the top. Clear-day views: Okhotsk Sea, Susunai valley, Tunaycha and Izmenchivoye lakes, Aniva Bay and Kamyshov Range. Marked hiking trails of varying length. A second-tier nature hike — not a museum or cable car, but a real ascent with weather swings.
How to get there
Drive from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to trailheads at the foot; ascend on marked routes.
