A turquoise quarry lake at a former mine — an unexpected industrial landscape in eastern Khakassia.

Chernyshevskoye Mineral Lake

Near Chernyshevskoye a flooded mine pit forms a blue-green lake — minerals and depth tint the water. Popular with photographers, not a safe beach — steep banks, unsuitable water, partly private or industrial access. Steppe and village infrastructure; dirt road approach; visit by day, avoid unstable ledges. Eastern Khakassia — far from Abakan, unexpected contrast to Lake Shira. Respect private property and gate warnings.

How to get there

~400 km east from Abakan to Chernyshevskoye; local roads to the quarry.

Best season

June–August on clear days
