Fedoskino (lacquer miniature museum)

The village of Fedoskino in Mytishchi urban district is regarded as the birthplace of Russian papier-mâché lacquer miniature. In the late eighteenth century (traditionally 1795) merchant P. I. Korobov founded a workshop for lacquered visors in Danilkovo; the range later grew to snuffboxes, caskets and more. The Lukutin family developed the trade: oil painting on lacquer became its hallmark. The Moscow Region Museum of Folk Arts and Crafts (“Lukutin Estate”) opened in 2003 in the Lukutin House — a regional heritage building that held painting workshops from the late nineteenth century into the 1970s. Lukutin, craft workplaces and a Fedoskino miniature collection; workshops run by booking. Nearby, the Fedoskino miniature factory offers production tours — a separate site, not the museum house.
