Korovin Church (Flenovo)

St Nicholas church in Flenovo, near Talashkino, is famous for murals by Mikhail Korovin. Built in the early 20th century as part of Princess Tenisheva's cultural project; facade and interior exemplify painterly Art Nouveau architecture. Korovin's murals survive in part: walls and vaults with subjects and ornament in his vivid decorative style linked to folk motifs. Not an academic cathedral but an experiment in the village church as artwork. Check locally whether the church is active or museum mode; interior access may be limited by restoration or service schedule. The exterior reads well against fields and tree belts. Flenovo is a short stop on the Talashkino route — a few kilometres between villages on foot or by car. Typical Smolensk backcountry with field and wood patches. Combine with Tenisheva estate and Svetlitsa chapel — three Talashkino-cluster stops in half a day. Modest dress inside. Photography per parish rules; flash often forbidden.
