Fokino Pine Forests

Fokino lies in Fokinsky District on the Bolva River, thirty kilometres northeast of Bryansk. Pine and mixed forests surround the town — typical of central Bryansk Oblast. The Bolva is a Desna tributary; its valley serves locals for walks, fishing, mushroom and berry picking. Forests are not a formal reserve but retain a natural character. Chalk quarries and cement industry are known in the Fokino area; some quarries are recultivated and overgrown with young woodland — a contrast of industrial past and green present. The town began as a workers' settlement at cement production; today it keeps compact building and a riverside park zone. A convenient stop between Bryansk and Dyatkovo on the regional road.
