Gadelsha Waterfall

Gadelsha Waterfall (also Ibragimovsky, Tuyalyas) on the eastern slope of the Irendyk ridge in Baymaksky District is formed by the Khudolaz (Tualyas), a tributary of the Ural River. Three steps total over 15 m — often called the highest waterfall of the Southern Urals. It has been a hydrological nature monument since 1965 (about 11 ha). Nearby landmarks are Abzakovo village in Baymaksky District (not the ski resort Abzakovo in Abzelilovsky District) and a rest base by the works. The approach is a hike with elevation gain; flow varies sharply by season — best in spring and after rain; in winter the cascade freezes. Far from Ufa day-trips and Bannoye resort: plan a full day for Baymaksky District roads. Gadelsha’s three steps read best when water is present, as the Khudolaz crosses the stony terraces of the eastern Irenyk slope. In dry weather the cascades can be much smaller; that is seasonal behaviour, not a closure. Local orientation needs care: this is Abzakovo in Baymaksky District, not the ski-resort Abzakovo in another district. The final section is normally a walk with ascent, so beach footwear is not appropriate. Rock by the brook is especially slippery after rain; do not stand under ledges or cross where the channel is unclear. Its distance from Ufa is part of the plan: allow for the road, signal and fuel as well as the time at the waterfall. In winter the falls freeze into an ice wall — a separate, more demanding outing.
