Gorely Volcano
Gorely is an active volcano at ~1829 m in the Mutnovsky complex. Its multi-kilometre caldera holds several crater lakes of varying mineral content and colour — from blue to green and black. The Gorely ascent is popular with guides and independent hikers: no mountaineering skills needed but a full day on exposed windy slopes. The summit is a plateau with lakes and steam, not a single cone. Historical eruptions occurred; notable activity was recorded in the 20th century. Old lava flows mark the slopes; weak steam vents work in the caldera. Combine with Mutnovsky and Paratunka springs — but do not plan both summits in one day without solid fitness.
How to get there
~80 km from Petropavlovsk to base camp; 6–8 hour hike to summit.
