Grebnevo Estate

Northeast of the MKAD, near Fryazino in Shchyolkovo district, on the Lyuboseevka and the Barsky ponds, spreads the large Grebnevo estate. The Moscow Region tourism guide dates earliest mentions to the sixteenth century; in the eighteenth–nineteenth centuries it passed through Trubetskoy, Bibikov and Golitsyn hands, later merchant owners. The fabric that survives took shape in two main phases. In the late eighteenth century General Gavriil Bibikov (Kutuzov’s brother-in-law) built a neoclassical main house and a summer church, with park and service buildings. In the early nineteenth century Prince Sergei Golitsyn continued the work: wings, entrance gates in the spirit of a triumphal arch and the winter St Nicholas church. That Golitsyn-era silhouette is what most photographs show. Architect names in local histories vary (Kazakov’s circle, Deryugin, Gilardi on interiors) — there is no undisputed signature, so a travel text should not treat them as settled fact. After the Revolution the estate housed a sanatorium, a technical school and workshops. Heritage listing came in the 1960s; restoration began in the 1980s, but in 1991 the nearly restored main house burned, and long neglect followed. Since 2018 a private revival has been under way: per welcome.mosreg.ru the wings and triumphal arch have already been restored, work continues on the stables and carriage yards, while the fire-damaged main house remains conserved/ruined.
