Gryazi

Gryazi is the third most populous town of Lipetsk Oblast, grown from a village on the Matyra river in 1868, when the Moscow–Voronezh railway passed through. Town status came in 1938. Over forty thousand people live here today. The town's history is railway one: the Gryazi-Voronezhskiye station building is an example of historic railway architecture, with a locomotive monument by the bus station. The town holds the Military Glory memorial with an eternal flame, the Alley of Heroes and a 1982 ' Katyusha'. Gryazi is the gateway to the Matyrskoye reservoir, the oblast's largest water body: the water is a few kilometres away, and the Matyra itself flows through the town with its 1963 concrete bridge.

How to get there

20 km south-east of Lipetsk by road; trains on the Moscow–Voronezh line stop at Gryazi-Voronezhskiye.

Best season
