KMA History Museum (Gubkin)
The Kursk Magnetic Anomaly History Museum is in Gubkin at 349 Belgorodskaya St. Opened 11 September 2012; a branch of the Gubkin Local History Museum. The exhibition occupies former School No. 10 — a regional heritage building that turned 100 in 2013. In the 1930s it housed a geological survey base where Academicians Ivan Gubkin and Alexey Arkhangelsky worked. Five halls cover KMA discovery and research, KMAruda plant, Lebedinsky and Stoilensky mining and processing plants, and basin geology. Original photos, documents and tools show the iron-ore belt's role in regional development. Outdoor exhibits include mining equipment. Gubkin is named for Academician Gubkin — the city grew around KMA deposits. The museum is a starting point for industrial tourism: from here arrange official tours to Lebedinsky GOK pits or KMAruda — not unsanctioned visits.
