Izheslavl hillfort

Near the modern village of Izheslavl, high above the Pronya River, the ramparts and ditches of a medieval town are still visible. Archaeologists date the settlement to no earlier than the twelfth century, when it served as a trading point within the Principality of Pronsk. Reaching the hillfort is easier in dry weather: the approach crosses fields, and the edge above the river requires care.

Difficulty

moderate at the viewpoint; difficult at the hillfort
