Kazachinsky Rapids

Kazachinsky Rapids lie on the Yenisei 30 km above Kazachinskoye village where the river crosses the Yenisei Ridge. Coordinates 57°27′57″N 93°16′07″E. Rock ridges narrow the channel from ~650 to ~350 m; total drop ~3.8 m with flow to 20–22 km/h. The section has two riffles and two chutes; Podporozhny Island sits below the lower chute. The Shilka River joins here. Upstream passage uses the unique towboat “Yenisey” — Russia’s only vessel hauled on a cable along the fairway. From the bank the rapids read as a line of white water and rock — a classic “Siberian Yenisei” motif described by V. Ya. Shishkov and early XX-century explorers. Summer visitors come on cruise boats and road viewpoints near Kazachinskoye. This is working infrastructure, not a rafting club: do not approach cable or vessels without permission; no swimming in the chute. Photography from marked viewpoints is safer than descending to the water.
