Khanka Lake Shore

Khanka is Primorsky's largest freshwater lake; part of its area lies in China. Shores are low and often marshy, with flood meadows, reeds, and shallow bays that shift with water level. The lake is a major stopover for migratory birds — ducks, geese, herons, and others draw birdwatchers and ornithologists. The open, windy landscape contrasts with the forested south of the krai. Settlements on the Primorsky shore are small; tourist infrastructure is modest. Visits usually focus on birdwatching, shore walks, and viewpoints near lakeside villages. Not a beach resort or sea route — a destination for wetland ecosystems and quiet field travel in a steppe-like border landscape.
