Khingan Nature Reserve

Khingan State Nature Reserve protects mid- and southern taiga on the Khingan-Tap ridge in eastern Amur Oblast — landscapes long altered on the plains by fields and villages. Amur cork tree and other Far East species find core habitat here. Visits only under reserve rules — guided tours, research routes, limited camps. Rolling terrain, damp trails even in summer. Mosquitoes and ticks spring to autumn; bears and boar are routine forest neighbours. Hiking pace, not a one-hour roadside walk. Visitor centre and route approval required — no unauthorised entry. A separate eastern Amur trip, not Blagoveshchensk museums. Pairs well with Arkhara steppe roads — after open country the taiga feels especially dense and cool.
