A rare surviving wooden church in the oblast south — typical rural architecture without tourist reconstruction.
Khislavichi Wooden Church
Khislavichi district centre in southern Smolensk Oblast has a wooden church — rare where most temples are stone or lost. Timber architecture needs constant care: tent roofs, log walls, shingle or metal roofing. Khislavichi is backcountry: a single-storey town and fields between Desnogorsk and Pochinok. Combine with Porechye-Rossosh reserve and Shumyachi — southern wooden-architecture route. The exterior is worth a stop even if closed. Modest dress if entering. Do not touch unsafe roof or wall elements.
How to get there
