Khutyn Monastery
Khutyn Monastery stands on the left bank of the Polist in Khutyn volost. Founded in the 14th century; stone building began with cathedral and refectory in the 15th. Sacked and rebuilt, it keeps Novgorod monastic architecture traits. Cathedral, bell tower, residential and service wings, walled enclosure with towers. Active community — monks live here, services continue. Visit by monastery rules: modest dress, quiet during worship. Linked to Archbishop Euphemius II and Polist lands history. River and field views from the wall. A living cloister, not a parade tourist ensemble. 20–30 minutes by car or bus from Veliky Novgorod. Pair with Yuriev Monastery — both on the same side of the city, each with its own story.
