St Jacob's Church

In Znamensk (former Velau), walls of the Gothic St Jacob's church survive — a fourteenth-century temple in Chernyakhovsk district. This continues the "church" line from wave 1: if Allenau and Auglitten appealed, the scale and brick Gothic are similar here. Wall conservation has been carried out — the ruins are in better shape than the most ruined churches in the oblast, but there is still no roof. The silhouette reads from afar by tower and gable. Reach it by car from Chernyakhovsk or Znamensk. Visit during daylight; do not walk under crumbling structures. Combine with Georgenburg Castle or Saalau Castle in Chernyakhovsk district — all in the same route cluster.
