Kirsanov Merchant Houses

Kirsanov in eastern Tambov Oblast is one of the region's oldest towns, founded in the 17th century as a steppe-border ostrog. By the 18th–19th centuries it was a merchant centre: trade routes crossed here, fairs, mills and crafts flourished. Surviving historic centre stock — two- and three-storey brick houses with ground-floor shops, carved surrounds, balconies and late-19th-century eclectic facades. Streets descend to the Pravaya Lomovka — the embankment complements the architecture route. Kirsanov is not an open-air museum but a living town: historic houses hold shops, offices and flats. The walk is about facade details, style comparison and old signs, not closed interiors. A local history museum adds to the street route, covering merchant families, fairs and industry from the 19th to early 20th century. Combine Kirsanov with Inzhavino on the Oka (~55 km) or Rzhaksa mineral springs (~40 km) for eastern small-town heritage.
