Klyazmin-Lukh Nature Reserve

Klyazmin-Lukh Nature Reserve covers over 43,000 ha in Vyazniki District, ~140 km east of Vladimir. A desman reserve operated here in the first half of the 20th century; the protected area was re-established in 1994. More than 120 streams start here feeding the Klyazma; flora and fauna among the richest in the region. Beavers, desmans, rare butterflies and plants occur. Floodplain and terrace landscape, not mountain hiking. Visits are regulated: ecotourism and wildlife watching via permitted trails and administration approval. No unauthorised fires or bog driving. Pair with Gorokhovets or Klyazma trips but allow a full nature day — not a 20-minute highway stop.

How to get there
