Medieval Kolpna on the Oka

Kolpna stands on the Oka's right bank in southwestern Oryol Oblast. Mentioned in the 14th–15th centuries as fortress and trading post; controlled crossings and steppe routes. Earth rampart fragments, old riverside streets and 18th–19th-century churches survive. Kolpna is a living small town with fishermen and dacha owners, not an open-air museum. Embankment and wide Oka views are the main draw; sunsets are photogenic. Boat crossing (when operating) adds rural charm. Kolpna ~120 km from Oryol; combine with Novosil and Verkhovye on an Oka route. Mosquitoes by the water in summer; do not walk river ice unless sure. Modest dining — bring snacks. Embankment parking usually available.
