V. G. Korolenko House-Museum in Dzhanhot

In the hamlet of Dzhanhot (Gelendzhik urban district), among a protected grove of relict Pitsunda pine, stands an early-twentieth-century country house linked to the writer Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko. His brother Illarion bought the plot in the late nineteenth century; Vladimir himself helped design the house, built in 1901–1902 on the slope of Mount Saint Nina from his drawings. Museum sources note about nine family visits from the 1890s to 1915; here he rested and worked, including memoirs of A. P. Chekhov and N. G. Chernyshevsky. The museum opened on 21 May 1964 in the largely surviving main house of I. G. Korolenko’s estate — the only literary museum in the Russian Federation dedicated to the humanist writer and rights advocate. The complex is a regional cultural-heritage site. A Lebanon cedar brought from Crimea and planted around 1901 grows on the grounds and is specially protected as a botanical monument. The displays cover Korolenko’s Caucasus stays, dacha life and literary work; check current hours and tickets on the Gelendzhik local-history museum site (gelmusey.rf) and Culture.ru. Dzhanhot lies about 20 km from Gelendzhik — a quiet literary and natural stop rather than a beach-resort icon.
