Kotovsk Railway Junction
Kotovsk is named for Civil War hero Grigory Kotovsky and since the 19th century grew as a rail station at strategic line crossings. Today it is one of Tambov Oblast's largest junctions: routes to Moscow, Volgograd, Ryazan and southern destinations meet here. The station and forecourt retain Soviet and post-war architecture: ticket halls, platforms, shunting yards and signal masts. For industrial tourism fans this is a living site showing how a provincial town relies on logistics. Kotovsk local museum covers railway construction, the station in wartime and the junction's role in grain and coal haulage. It complements walks on the platform and viewing points by bridges.
