Krasnaya Polyana Memorial

Krasnaya Polyana sanatorium settlement in Valuysky District is known for its healing climate and mineral springs. Near Lavy village stand a memorial and mass grave of sixteen Soviet soldiers killed fighting fascist invaders in 1943. The memorial is listed among military burials of Belgorod Oblast. Belgorod and its surroundings were liberated during the Belgorod–Kharkov operation in summer 1943; monuments from that period are scattered across the oblast's south. Krasnaya Polyana sanatorium has operated since Soviet times; parkland and a gallery of mineral springs complement the memorial route. Not a museum with halls but a quiet remembrance point in a health resort. Valuyki district centre is ten kilometres away; the town stands on the Valuy River and retains late 19th–early 20th-century building stock. Combine the memorial with an embankment and river valley walk. Krasnaya Polyana is a convenient stop between Belgorod and Valuyki (~130 km from the oblast centre). Krasnaya Polyana mixes remembrance and sanatorium — quiet at the mass grave. Not all sanatorium zones are public.
