Krasnikovo Water Mill

The water mill in Krasnikovo, Pristensky District, is a rare wooden-architecture monument for the entire Black Earth region. It appears on the 1780 Oboyan uyezd survey; locals call it the Glazov mill after the noble owners. The structure was assembled without a single nail — standard 18th–19th-century timber technique. A wheel driven by the nearby stream powered the grinding mechanism. The Kursk Regional Museum notes that only a handful of such mills survive in Russia. Restored between 2012 and 2014, it is now a branch of the Kursk Regional Museum. The wheel no longer grinds grain, but mechanisms are shown to organised groups of 20 or more. A small rest area lies behind the building by the water. Krasnikovo is a field stop, not an urban museum: the last kilometre from the Oboyan road may be dirt. It is a rare chance to see an 18th-century milling technology in a typical Chernozem landscape. Krasnikovo fits as a second stop after Oboyan: chalk hills and the mill make one southern day from Kursk. On the return leg Korennaya Pustyn is ~45 km away by asphalt and dirt roads.
