Krasnogorodsk

Krasnogorodsk lies in Krasnogorodsky District in the south-west. The name ties to «red hill» by the old centre. A small place — a few streets, wooden houses, admin offices and shops. The local Lena River (not the Siberian one) — a quiet forest stream with sand bars. Bushy banks; locals fish in summer, ski forest tracks in winter. Church and old building remnants in town and nearby. Almost no tourist infrastructure — no large hotels or tour desks. For self-drive travellers, not organised tours. A stop between Sebezh, Opochka and the Belarus border. Allow an hour for a village walk and a river detour. Mixed forest, fields, small lakes — typical south-west oblast rarely visited by transit tourists from Pskov.
