Krasny Chikoy

Krasny Chikoy lies in the steppe zone on the namesake river. A stone church dominates open hills — white masonry against yellow-green steppe makes the village recognisable even from the highway. A small village tied to farming and transit on the Ulan-Ude road. Shore walk and church visit take an hour or two; steppe roads continue toward Buryatia and the Kuka volcanic plateau. Hot dry summers; spring snowmelt may raise the river. Steppe wind is strong — a light jacket helps even on sunny days. Modest shop and fuel — carry water and snacks.
