Kresttsy Lace Craft

Kresttsy lies on the Mologost River in Chudovo District, on the old Novgorod–Saint Petersburg road. Lace-making developed here from the 18th century — first as home craft, then as a recognised trade with its own patterns and technique. The Kresttsy Lace Museum operates today: displays cover craft history, tools and artisans' daily life. Nearby workshops show weaving in progress and sell pieces. Not a Kremlin souvenir stall but a place keeping craft as local identity. Kresttsy lace is known for geometric and floral motifs, density and bobbin technique. Artisans train for years; finished lace goes into clothing, home textiles and church vestments. Combine with northern Novgorod Oblast — between Chudovo and Borovichi. Allow 2–3 hours for museum and village walk; seasonal masterclasses by appointment.
