Kronotskoye Lake
Kronotskoye is among the peninsula's largest lakes, in the heart of Kronotsky State Biosphere Reserve. Area exceeds 240 km²; shores are taiga and basalt outcrops. The Kronotskaya River and other tributaries enter here; sockeye and other Pacific salmon spawn. Shores are almost uninhabited — bear, otter and white-tailed eagle territory. Access requires reserve permission, usually by helicopter or expedition. The lake is not on mass Valley of Geysers routes though in the same reserve system. Kronotskoye is for pristine ecology observation, not casual shore fishing. All water activity is reserve-regulated and needs approval.
