Kudepsta Canyon

Kudepsta Canyon is a gorge of the Kudepsta River in Sochi National Park by Krasnaya Volya (Khosta/Adler sector of Greater Sochi). National-park and local descriptions give a depression about 1.5 km long, 150–200 m wide and 80–90 m deep — far larger than the neighbouring “Dry” and “Wet” canyons. Forested slopes hide the rift until you reach the rim or a natural viewpoint. Origins are tied to long river erosion and, in one discussed reading, tectonic rupture; for visitors the landscape and rim caution matter most. Unlike heavily marketed Psakho canyons, Kudepsta is often called wilder and harder to traverse along the bed — a rim walk from Krasnaya Volya is enough for many. This is quiet Sochi off the Olympic circuit and Krasnaya Polyana resorts: mud, roots, drop-offs. Stay back from the edge after rain and do not descend the bed without canyoning experience.

How to get there

Krasnaya Volya (bus 128 from Khosta to the terminus). Walk along Volodi Ulyanova St. to the end of the asphalt, then dirt roads/trails to the canyon rim. By car to the village edge, then on foot. Track landmark about 43.559, 39.934.

Best season

May to October
