Kurai Steppe

Kurai steppe is a vast high plateau with tough grass, occasional steppe lakes, and sharp wind. The North Chuy Range wall rises to the south; the landscape shifts by season but always feels vast. Kurai village and the steppe serve as a base for range photography, day walks, and hard pass routes. The Chuysky tract asphalt passes nearby, but the steppe itself is open country without theme-park attractions. Colder and drier than forest valleys — harsh sun, little shade. Tent camping is possible at camps; respect private land and do not drive on wet turf. Suited to travellers tired of forest who want horizon — not cosy cafés. Combine with Aktru glaciers and other Chuya-direction sites. Weather is volatile — snow and hail are possible even in summer. Check forecasts before open steppe travel.
