Kurkure Waterfall

Kurkure Falls forms where the namesake river joins the Chulyshman. Total drop is about thirty metres with roughly fifteen metres of free fall. Water noise carries along the trail before the ledge appears. Access is on foot after a boat crossing of the Chulyshman at the foot of Katu-Yaryk pass. The trail follows the right bank upstream for several kilometres on mostly level ground. The falls lie in Ak-Cholushpa Nature Park and Altai Reserve buffer zones. Not a roadside viewpoint — a half- or full-day hike from the valley. Viewpoints sit above the cascade and at its base; rainbows often appear in spray on sunny days. Rocks are slick and drops are steep — stay on marked spots. Combine Kurkure with Chulyshman valley routes and the Katu-Yaryk descent, but do not underestimate the crossing — river level rises fast after rain.
