Kyren
Kyren stands on the Kyngarga River in the Tunka Valley, ~40 km from Arshan. Known since the 18th century on the Irkutsk–central Buryatia route. Old merchant houses, a church and traces of Russia–Mongolia trade remain. Wide valley with pastures and fields; Sayan Range ridges on the horizon. Not a resort but a district transport and admin centre. Roads branch to Arshan, Baikal and Mongolia via Tunkinsky Pass. Shops, petrol station and cafés; most stay in Arshan but Kyren suits a short stopover. A one-hour centre walk — historic buildings vs modern outskirts show valley life.
How to get there
Federal highway from Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk; buses stop in the village centre.
