Labiau Castle

In the centre of Polessk, on the riverbank, stands Labiau Castle — one of the few Order sites in Kaliningrad Oblast with an active museum inside the walls. It is federally protected heritage — a clear contrast to the overgrown ruins of many castles in the oblast. The fort is linked to the history of former Labiau — a town on the Deima river. Today you can view exhibitions and walk the grounds by the water. The castle works well as an anchor for the northern oblast if your route passes through Polessk. Reach it by car or train to Polessk; the castle lies within the town and is visible from the centre. Check museum opening hours before visiting — schedules depend on the season. Combine with a trip through Chernyakhovsk if you are building a "castle route" across the north and centre of the oblast.
