Lake Urgún

Lake Urgún (Bashkir Örgön) in Uchalinsky District is one of the republic’s largest lakes: the surface is on the order of several to about twelve square kilometres depending on the source, with depths to around 8 m. Together with the Urgún pine forest it has formed a complex nature monument since 1965 (over three thousand hectares). The lake stretches north–south between the northern edge of Uchaly and Urgúnovo / Muldashevo; the eastern shore under pine is good for camping. It belongs to the Uchaly lake group; pike, perch, roach and other species are present — fish under local rules. The Urgún tourist complex stands on the shore, but the lake and forest remain the natural focus, not a spa-resort cliché. A good base for the Akhunovo menhirs or Lake Aushkul farther toward the Chelyabinsk Oblast border. Lake Urgún is commonly given an area of about 12 km²; reference figures vary with measurement method and water level. Protection covers more than the water: the Urgún pine forest and lake complex became a nature monument in 1965, with a protected area of about 3,398 ha. The wooded shore is therefore part of the same protected landscape, not merely a campsite. Use established sites, do not drive through undergrowth, and light fires only where permitted. Wind can change conditions quickly on open water, while some shores are marshy and unsuitable for swimming or launching. Combine the lake with Uchaly if useful, but do not expect a continuous tourist road around its edge: local roads and private land do not form a ring. The practical details in this card are part of the route, not a formality: they help match the season, road and visitor experience. They are not a promise of constant access, because natural conditions, protection rules and institutional schedules can change. Before setting out, save an offline map, check the weather and leave time for the return. The protected lake-and-pine area has been about 3,398 ha since 1965: not only the water surface, but the Urgún pine forest that the nature-monument status is meant to protect. The eastern pine shore is usually quieter than the Uchaly town side: fires only in designated spots, and fish under regional rules.
