Laklinskaya Cave
Laklinskaya Cave (Bashkir Tashkuesh — “stone hollow”) lies in Salavatsky District on the slope of Mount Laklytau, inside the Yangan-Tau UNESCO Global Geopark. It has been a republican nature monument since 1965. It is a horizontal system of three grottos linked by galleries: total length about 252 m, with several thousand square metres of chamber floor. The entrance sits about 35 m above the river; a second opening above it forms a natural karst bridge. P. S. Pallas first described it in 1770; later studies include F. N. Chernyshev and S. I. Rudenko. Scale-like calcite coatings rare in other Bashkortostan caves are of special scientific interest. Ice and firn persist near the entrance year-round — bring warm layers even in heat. Wooden stairs and railings were added in 2019; no technical caving gear is required, but a headlamp, helmet and care on the descent are essential. Easy to combine with the Salavat Yulaev Museum in Maloyaz and Idrisovskaya Cave — without stopping at the Yangan-Tau resort itself. The figure of 252 m is the practical route length used by Visit Bashkortostan and Uraloved; some inventories give longer totals because they count passages and recesses differently. For a visitor, the cave’s character matters more: daylight disappears quickly and the entrance floor and walls can be wet or icy. Stairs and railings make the descent clearer but do not turn it into an urban attraction. Walk slowly, keep to installed surfaces, and do not shine powerful lights at animals. Park without blocking village traffic; after rain, the short approach needs the same footwear as the cave. It works best as a deliberate, unhurried stop rather than a rushed dash through the grottos. The practical details in this card are part of the route, not a formality: they help match the season, road and visitor experience. They are not a promise of constant access, because natural conditions, protection rules and institutional schedules can change. Tourist summaries most often cite about 252 m; some inventories list longer figures. For visitors the practical point is a wide horizontal system with rare calcite coatings, not a narrow technical adit. Laklinskaya pairs well with Idrisovskaya Cave for a Yangan-Tau geopark day; check the Maloyaz museum on museumrb.ru before you go — the branch may be closed for modernisation.
