Lake Lama (Putorana)

Lake Lama is a 318 km² freshwater tectonic sheet on the north-west Putorana Plateau, ~120–140 km east of Norilsk. Coordinates 69°31′02″N 90°37′30″E; up to 80 km long, 8 km wide, depth estimates 254–600 m, elevation 45–53 m. Evenki “Lama” means “big lake”. Mikchangda and Lama ranges frame it; fish include grayling, whitefish, pike and perch. For Norilsk residents it is the nearest major Putorana point — reach via Norilka, Talaya and Lama rivers from Valek landing (~5 hours). Ice holds from November to mid-June, up to 1 m thick; full break-up late June. Summer level peaks mid-July. Few bases; logistics are river or helicopter. Not the reserve’s only showcase but lies near protected landscapes. Fishing and motor boats require local rules and respect for seasonal navigation.
