Ethnographic Museum in Lazarevskoye

The Ethnographic Museum in Lazarevskoye is a department of the Sochi Resort History Museum. It opened to visitors on 12 May 1990 (founded 1985) in a two-storey early-twentieth-century house (no later than 1914) that belonged to the merchant Popandopulo; after nationalisation in 1920 the building changed uses before becoming a museum. The displays cover the history, daily life and culture of the Adyghe (Circassians) — indigenous people of the North-West Caucasus and Black Sea strip, including the Shapsugs. Rooms show costume, weapons, tools, household objects and materials on crafts, rites and traditional knowledge; museum notes mention about a thousand items. Address: Pobedy St. 97; hours are published by Sochi culture authorities and Culture.ru (often Tue–Sun, Monday closed). Against Lazarevskoye’s beach strip the museum offers a rare quiet ethnographic focus — a pause between sea and mountains without Olympic venues or Krasnaya Polyana.
