Melenki has been a town since 1778, centre of Melenkovsky District on the Klyazma. Population around 12–13 thousand — provincial hub with 19th-century streets and embankment, not monastery tourism. The town appears in chronicles; Soviet industry grew here but the core kept low-rise fabric. Melenki suit an overnight or half-day between Murom and Gorokhovets. Sights are modest: local museum, churches, Klyazma bridge. Value is quiet and no tour buses at a kremlin. ~180 km from Vladimir via M7 and regional roads; closer from Murom. Pair with Klyazmin-Lukh Reserve on a nature route.
