Vozdvizhenskaya Hill (Mglin Ancient Fort)

Vozdvizhenskaya Hill is an archaeological site on the right bank of the Proma River in Mglin. The fort occupied a strategic height; first fortifications date to the 12th–14th centuries when Mglin was part of Chernigov and later the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Ramparts and ditches remain on the summit; the cultural layer indicates the size of the ancient settlement. Excavations found pottery, timber building remains and everyday objects. The hill overlooks the Proma, Mglin's old quarters and surrounding fields. It is an open-air historic point, not a museum; information boards may be absent — follow the terrain. Mglin is one of Bryansk Oblast's oldest towns; first mention dates to the 14th century. The city retains some 19th-century stone building, including the Ascension Church. Combine with a walk through central Mglin and the Transfiguration Monastery a few kilometres from town.
