Michurinsk Botanical Garden

Michurinsk, named for breeder Ivan Michurin, preserves his scientific garden — one of Russia's oldest fruit nurseries. Michurin moved here in the late 19th century and spent decades crossing apples, cherries, plums and berries for hardiness and yield in the central belt. The garden keeps alleys of mature trees, plots of rare hybrids, laboratory buildings and sites linked to the breeder's experiments. Not a decorative park but a working research institution with plant protection rules. In spring the garden becomes a white-pink sea of blossom; in autumn a harvest display. Tours cover grafting methods and selection, varieties like Antonovka and Beliy Naliv and Michurin's own hybrids. Nearby are the scientist's house museum and memorial complex. A Michurinsk route can start at the station through the garden to the central square with the breeder's monument. Combine Michurinsk with Rasskazovo (~45 km) and southern steppe sites — Mordovo and Umets chalk outcrop (~80–100 km).
